FAR News September 2010

Another year has gone by in the life of the Foundation for Alcoholism Research. FAR is growing in so many ways and there is so much going on that 2010 is going by quickly.

• In 2009 we hosted 2 events, in 2010 we hosted 3 events plus a bicycle raffle.

• In 2009 we had a booth at 1 community event, in 2010 we have had booths at 3 community events and may have another one before the year is over.

• In 2010 we retained all but 2 of our corporate sponsors and added 5 more.

• The articles in the Addison Independent have more than doubled.

• The mailing list has more than doubled.

• FAR had two programs on Middlebury Community TV. (DVD’s are available to borrow and are also on the web site).

• FAR is now known locally and is branching out. FAR has a representative in Delaware, and Georgia, as well as increased visibility in Vermont.

FAR is maturing as an organization.

  • A professional bookkeeper is keeping the books and has computerized them.
  • A professional accountant is doing the statements, also computerized. They both currently work (not retired) and are doing these as volunteers.
  • FAR is now insured. This is necessary for events that we host as well as booths that we have at community events.
  • FAR has completed a business plan that is available for anyone to see.
  • A marketing professional is now an active volunteer.

FAR is now visible in a variety of ways on the Internet.

  • The most popular Internet visibility is Facebook.
  • FAR is in Wikipedia, Guidestar, eBay, and Paypal.
  • A volunteer from Binary Computer Solutions has designed a new website; it is now operational and looks more professional.

FAR is firming up plans for a major event January 7, 2011 when Keith Lockhart, Conductor of the Boston Pops will give a presentation at the Middlebury, VT Town Hall Theater as a fund-raiser for FAR. His support is exciting and appreciated.

Finally and most importantly, Professor Cronise has been doing her research and thinks there may be some interesting findings.
