Third Annual FAR Card Party

THIRD ANNUAL FOUNDATION FOR ALCOHOLISM RESEARCH (FAR)

CARD PARTY HUGE SUCCESS

Bridport, VT – May 9, 2011 – On May 3, 2011, the Foundation for Alcoholism Research, Inc. (FAR) held its third annual lunch and card party fundraiser at the Swift House Inn in Middlebury, Vermont.  After expenses, over $1000 was raised for research into the causes, prevention, and detection of alcoholism.

“Alcoholism is a disease that destroys families and lives.  We support the goals of this foundation and are happy to do our part to raise awareness and funds for research.”  – Dan and Michele Brown, owners of the Swift House Inn.

“We are fortunate to have such a generous outpouring of support from local businesses and from the community,” comments Peg Calder, president of the Foundation for Alcoholism Research.  “Alcoholism is a devastating disease resulting in broken families, lost jobs, and multiple treatments and relapses.  Enhanced understanding of this disease will lead to improved treatment methods for the many dedicated medical and counseling professionals everywhere.”

FAR extends its thanks to these local merchants for the raffle/door prizes: Carolyn’s closet, Distinctive Paints and Interiors, Woodware, Solo’s Salon, Middlebury Floral and Gifts, Blossom Basket, Courtyard Marriott, and Vites and Herbs. Thanks also go to Hank Prickitt for baking the afternoon snack and to Dell Hadley for donating score pads to FAR for use at future card parties as well.

The Swift House Inn presented a delicious lunch of pan-seared salmon fillet, served with a green salad dressed with a pink peppercorn vinaigrette.  The perfect dessert of vanilla cake topped with a strawberry rhubarb sauce and fresh whipped cream topped it off.

The dining room and library were filled to capacity and there was a waiting list for last minute cancellations. Card players from Middlebury, East Middlebury, Bristol, Leicester, New Haven, Ferrisburg, Cornwall, Salisbury, Shelburne, and Burlington convened for a fun afternoon.

Doors opened at 11:30AM with lunch served shortly afterwards. Playing began after dessert and continued until an afternoon snack break and award of raffle prizes.
